Revised School Calendar as a Result of the ECQ

Memo to: The AGSB Community

From: Rodolfo P. Ang, Dean

Re: Adjustments to our Academic Calendar

Date: April 8, 2020

In light of the recently announced extension of the Expanded Community Quarantine (ECQ) till the end of April, please allow us to share with you our planned adjustments in our school calendar to address the disruptions brought about by the coronavirus pandemic and the resultant ECQ.

(1) Regis program – The 3rd term which began on February 10, 2020, will be extended. Classes will resume after the ECQ, to meet our intended 8 week duration. Classes that proceeded on an on-line basis during ECQ may end earlier. The originally scheduled 4th term (April 20 to June 13, 2020) will be CANCELLED, and we will proceed immediately to the 5th term, which will be held as originally scheduled, from June 29 to August 22, 2020.

(2) Standard and MM program – The second trimester will be extended to meet the normal 15 week duration of the trimester. If the ECQ is lifted by the end of April, this would mean an extension of the second trimester till June 20, 2020. Classes that continued to run on an on-line basis can end earlier if the course material has already been adequately covered. The third trimester will start on its original start date, May 11, 2020. This means that the second trimester and the third trimester will overlap for six (6) weeks. This will allow new students and students who were not enrolled for the second trimester to be able to proceed with their studies on schedule. Students who are willing to take on an additional academic load will be allowed to enroll for classes in the third trimester even if their second trimester classes have not yet been concluded.

(3) MBA Health – We are cognizant of the fact that the majority of the students enrolled in this program are medical practitioners, and have been at the forefront of the battle against the coronovirus pandemic. We intend to resume the second trimester only after the situation has stabilized on the ground for our students. We will make a final decision on the academic calendar for the MBA Health program when there is greater clarity regarding the overall situation in the health sector.

(4) Master in Entrepreneurship, Master in Entrepreneurship (Social Development Track), and all Institutional Programs – The schedules for these programs have always been customized to the needs of the programs. Students in these programs will hear separately from their program directors regarding the adjustments to their academic calendars.

(5) MD-MBA – The schedule for the MBA classes of students enrolled in the Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health is being worked out in coordination with the ASMPH administration. This will also be the subject of a separate memo from ASMPH.

I hope that the above notes will help provide some clarity in this time of great uncertainty. It articulates the general directions that we intend to go. More changes and adjustments will probably be necessary as the situation evolves more.

I hope that this memo finds everyone in good health. May God keep you and your loved ones safe. We hope to welcome all of you back to AGSB when ECQ is lifted.

Have a blessed and healthful Easter weekend.
